Blue Papaya, Whitley Bay

Blue Papaya - Retailers of fair trade and locally sourced gifts and accessories.
Real Art Projects were asked to design a new shop front for Blue Papaya in Whitley Bay. The business relocated from Park View and the proprietor took advantage of North Tyneside Council's "Shop Front" scheme, enabling them to fully restyle the exterior of the premises with the help of a grant.
The location of the premises is at the bottom of a hill on the main road route into the town, and can be seen from some distance away. Therefore there was an opportunity to create something striking and eye-catching to visitors to Whitley Bay.
The main idea was to cover the shop front, from pavement to roof, in blue. From there we were able to concentrate on the background to their logo. This was applied using spraypaint to create a "sunburst" effect.
The finished design has received a great response from customers.

Mentoring at Waygood, Newcastle upon Tyne

In 2008 a member of Real Art Projects was asked to mentor Arsen, an asylum seeker from Armenia, as part of WayGood's attempt to make connections with minority groups.
The project was a fantastic success as he was helped to expand his unique sketches using spraypaint for outdoor work, and pen and emulsion for the indoor work.
